Indistinguishable from Magic

Aside from design and architecture I have been an avid comic reader, and occasional cartoonist, since childhood. One of my favorite contemporary cartoonists, Aaron Diaz of the beautifully illustrated online comic Dresden Codak, has an excellent new blog I wanted to share with you. For a fellow creative, he's almost embarrassingly prolific; the blog has been active for a little over two weeks and there are already 15 posts. It sure makes me look like a slouch. More important is that they are all of the best quality. He discusses not only his specific techniques of composition and digital painting, but also addresses basic techniques that are common to all art, design, and architecture. They are some of the most understandable and well-written articles I have ever read about techniques such as framing, contrast, focal points, etc. I highly recommend, especially if you are new to drawing or visual composition. Oh... it's also entertaining!
